If you can decipher his UVA-educated grammar, he's saying the mentors/handlers have a heck of a lot to do with it. He's basically saying that a lot of recruits from out there just parrot what their handlers say about schools.

Look, Tech recruited Covil well before Clemson. They offered him way before Clemson did. Clemson didn't offer him until March of 2021. He's got 42 offers, and there were only four schools to offer him later than Clemson didOhio State, Arizona State, Miami and Georgia. VT offered him in 2019.

Here's what Covil told TSL back in JANUARY....

“I was just on the phone with the coaches (yesterday),” he said. “I’ve been in contact a lot in the last month. I like them, too, not far from home. They’ve got some pretty good coaches, and the corners coach, safeties coach and defensive coordinator, they keep in contact a lot.”

Assistant coach Darryl Tapp has been the primary recruiter and the coach Covil spoke with yesterday. Assistant coach Ryan Smith and defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton have also lent a hand.

“It was a good conversation,” Covil said. “We didn’t talk for long because it was my mom’s birthday. They asked me how I was doing, how my week was. I get a vibe that if I go there, I’ll get playing time early. They message me a lot. At first, I wasn’t thinking about staying in-state, but they’ve got me thinking about it.”

CC here again: Tech was recruiting Covil "a lot" at least two months before Clemson offered. He's going to Clemson, which isn't a surprise. But the stuff about Clemson showing him more love seems pretty bogus, considering they were one of the last schools to offer him, and he himself told TSL that VT was recruiting him hard two months before Clemson even offered.
